KCRCC Announces Speech Contest for Local High School Students

[Coeur d’Alene, December 26, 2023] — The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee is proud to announce the launch of a Speech Contest for 9th through 12th grade students residing in Kootenai County. The contest aims to encourage thoughtful discourse and civic engagement among our community's youth.

Three scholarships will be awarded to the winners of the Speech Contest. The first-place winner will be awarded a $2,000 scholarship, second-place a $1,500 scholarship, and third-place a $1,000 scholarship.

The unique aspect of this contest is that the winners will be determined by the audience at the highly anticipated Lincoln Day dinner. The Lincoln Day dinner, scheduled for February 17, 2024, is an annual sold-out event that brings together Republicans from across the county for an evening of celebration and camaraderie.

Attendees at the Lincoln Day dinner will have the opportunity to hear the finalist and cast their votes to determine the first, second, and third-place winners. In addition to the scholarship prizes, the three finalists, along with two accompanying adults each, will receive complimentary tickets to the Lincoln Day dinner.

This year's Lincoln Day dinner will feature Dr. Sebastian Gorka as the keynote speaker. Dr. Gorka is the host of "America First," a nationally syndicated radio show on the Salem Radio Network, and "The Gorka Reality Check" on Newsmax TV. An accomplished author, Dr. Gorka's books include the New York Times bestseller "Defeating Jihad," "Why We Fight," and "The War for America’s Soul." He served as Deputy Assistant for Strategy to President Donald J. Trump and has a rich background in national security and academia, having taught at the National Defense University and Marine Corps University.

"We are excited to provide an opportunity for our local high school students to showcase their skills and engage with important civic issues through this speech contest," said Beverly Guenette, Subcommittee Chair of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee. "The chance to have their work recognized by the attendees of the Lincoln Day dinner, along with the opportunity to hear from Dr. Sebastian Gorka, makes this contest a unique and enriching experience for our community's youth."

The Kootenai County Republican Central Committee encourages all eligible students to participate in the Speech Contest and looks forward to celebrating the winners at the Lincoln Day dinner in 2024.
