1. Tell us a little about yourself and your family, how long you have lived in the area.:
I am a native of the Meridian, Idaho area where my family homesteaded in about 1889. I have lived in the area my whole life, and I have three fabulous adult children.
2. What is your educational background?:
High school diploma - Meridian High School BBA - Boise State University MBA - Boise State University EE Training - Micron University Legislative Energy Management Certificate - University of Idaho
3. What is your occupational background?:
I grew up on a dairy farm and worked in the farming community in my growing up years. I entered the technology industry while in college with Micron technology where I worked for 15 years, then with Preco electronics for 9 years. My work with both companies culminated at the Director and Vice President levels (respectively), and specifically focused on international business development. Over the course of 24 years, I worked on-site in more than 60 countries. I then became a State Senator in the Idaho legislature for 10 years. During my years in the State Senate, I simultaneous worked as a commercial real estate broker, for which I am still licensed to this day.
4. Do you have experience as an elected official and if so, what was your position, and how would you describe your voting record?:
10 Years as an Idaho State Senator, and now in my 8th year as a U.S. Congressman. My voting record can be described as a thoughtful conservative guided by Christian values.
5. Please tell us about your activity as a Republican. Have you previously voted for candidates of other parties? If yes, explain.:
While in the U.S. Congress, and previously in the Idaho State Senate, I have been a stalwart representative for the pillars as articulated in the Idaho Republican Platform. I cannot recall ever voting for a candidate in a partisan election that was not Republican.
6. What is the purpose of government?:
To protect citizens and provide an environment for fair and free commerce.
7. Where do our rights as citizens of the United States come from?:
God first, then from the U.S. Constitution (which align completely).
8. Describe why you are running for this particular office. What are your qualifications? What are your goals?:
To proliferate the Constitutional values that the United States were founded upon - so that future generations can have opportunities for prosperity in a free environment. My life experience in farming, technology, real estate, government, and life - give me a strong foundation to do so. My goals are to stop bad stuff (socialist progressive initiatives which take power away from citizens and empower government), and promote good stuff (the values as established by our Founders: freedom, independence, free market, private property rights, etc... basically the things that ensure government serves the people - not the other way around).
9. Describe experiences where you are or have been engaged such as non-profit organizations, clubs, churches, boards, commissions, etc., where you have been of service to others.:
Former board member - Idaho Family Forum Former board member - Idaho Chooses Life Former board member - Christian Coalition Former board member - Ten Mile Community Church Former charter school board member
10. Do you describe yourself as fiscally conservative? Please, elaborate.: Yes. I generally discourage growth in government spending beyond that driven by inflation and population growth - and I have the voting record to prove it. The government should not spend more than it takes in.
11. Do you consider yourself as socially conservative? Please elaborate.: Yes. During my years in the Idaho State Senate (2005 - 2014), I had sponsored more pro-life bills than any member in Idaho state legislative history as of that time. As a member of Congress, I have consistently supported the value of life, and opposed what is currently referred to as the "woke" agenda - including transgenderism, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
12. Describe which party platform best aligns with your positions on public policy (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or Constitutional Party) and where do you disagree with that platform.: Republican. Although I don't outright disagree with the 17th amendment, I don't think it's repeal is practically realistic in this era (that is, removing the right of the citizenry to directly elect U.S. Senators). Therefore - politically - I will not die on that hill.
13. Do you have ANY history of tax liens, criminal record, bankruptcy, or conflict of interest (personal or professional)?: Not that I'm aware of except in my younger years - I collected a few speeding tickets (of which I may or may not be a little proud of).
14. Describe how you will make yourself available to your constituents and vote as their representative with FORTITUDE, adhering to the values and answers you have stated above.:
I will continue: Regular, frequent personal meetings, Access via my constituent services team (in CDA, Lewiston, Meridian, and Washington, DC), Regional town hall meetings, Bi-Monthly tele town hall meetings, Email and social media correspondence, Participation in local, state, and national events.
